Aloe Vera gel for hair has become the most popular natural hair mask which is now a day frequently used in the field of cosmetology. If you ask me why I would love to say that it perfectly suits my hair. My hair is naturally straight and I always wanted my hair to be curled but those curling iron and hairspray made my hair dull, rough and frizzy. Then, one of my friends suggested me to apply aloe vera gel and I was never knowing that it would provide such an excellent result to my hairs.
Now, I love to apply aloe vera gel mixed with other ingredients like castor oil, coconut oil, mustard oil (great oil for dandruff and hair growth), essential oils which give me extra benefits in one application and deep condition my hair. Doing experiment with aloe vera gel always gives the best result because the main ingredient is aloe and I think you should also give a chance to aloe vera gel for hair to get the proper food for your hairs.
After all, as Christopher Columbus is quoted as writing that, “Four vegetables are indispensable in the well-being of man: Wheat, the grape, the olive, and aloe. The first nourishes him, the second raises his spirit, the third brings him harmony, and the fourth cures him.” This advice cannot be ignored as the fourth item on this list his hallmarked as a healing plant across many cultures and through many timelines.(Source)
As I already told you in the previous post that I was suffering from dandruff and I made my own hair oil mixed with essential oils. Thanks to this essential oils which helped me to get rid of dandruff and related hair fall(See my post on 11 effective natural remedies for hair loss). So, let’s see how aloe vera gel is good for our hair.

Aloe Vera contains 75 potentially active constituents like vitamins, enzymes, minerals, sugars, salicylic acids, amino acids etc. It is considered not only great for hairs, it also does wonders for health and skin(Do check my post on aloe vera face mask for bright and glowing skin). There are many research findings of the nutrients found in aloe vera which proves that why aloe vera is a boon for our hair. Some of the benefits are:
1) Powerful Antioxidants
Antioxidants may improve hair growth by helping maintain the collagen or the hair follicles’ connective tissue. It contains vitamins A, C, and E, which are antioxidants. (Source)
Researchers at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, wrote about a study in the journal Molecules. The scientists focused on the extract’s possible antioxidants and antimycoplasmic activities. Mycoplasma is a type of bacteria that lack a cell wall, they are unaffected by many common antibiotics. Antimycoplasmic substances destroy these bacteria. They reported that Aloe Vera flower leaf extracts had antioxidant properties. The leaf skin extract also exhibited antimycoplasmic properties. - Vitamin C helps fight the bacteria on the scalp. It wards off dandruff and helps to get rid of the follicles’ debris and encourages the growth of new hair. It is also an essential nutrient for damaged hair and thus, treats and prevents a variety of hair disorders which can damage the hair follicles and affect the normal growth of hair. Alkaline phosphatase etc which helps to reduce excessive inflammation when applied to the skin topically.
- Vitamin B12 in aloe vera is important for a healthy scalp. Because of this, it can help to boost hair regrowth.
3) Anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and soothing Properties
- It possesses anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and kills the bacteria causing unhealthy scalp and hair loss.
A study done in 1935 and 1996 reported that aloe vera extract helped to reduce inflammation related to skin disease. It also provides rapid relief from the itching and burning associated with severe radiation dermatitis, scalp acne, and skin regeneration. (Source)
Aloe Vera has detoxifying powers because of the sheer number of amino acids it contains. Therefore, it is one of the nature’s most effective cleansers. And also because of its soothing, cooling, and moistening properties, Aloe Vera provides anti-inflammatory properties, too. Due to its antibacterial property, antioxidants and vitamins, it also reduces other skin and hair conditions like scalp psoriasis, acne and dermatitis. (source)

July 4, 2018 at 10:19 amHi Ashley,
The mask has honey, yogurt, and papaya which will make you uncomfortable while sleeping. I will suggest you do not use this as an overnight mask. If you skip these ingredients when you can use it overnight.

August 3, 2018 at 4:51 amHi thanks for sharing these simple effective and easy masks. Tried the aloe vera, yogurt and castor oil mask today but the moment I added in the aloe vera the yogurt curdled. Any idea what went wrong? I anyways went ahead and used it.

August 11, 2018 at 9:06 amHi Ruchi,
I had used a homemade card which didn’t curdle. It also depends on what yogurt you are using. I think its fine to use it even though it gets curdled as you will get all the benefits from it anyway.

January 2, 2019 at 2:07 am1: can I add lime or lemon juice to (aloe vera, coconut oil and honey) mask?
2: can I use a blender to mix the ingredients?
Mamta
January 11, 2019 at 4:31 amHi Ariana, yes, you can add lemon juice to the recipe. But I would recommend adding lemon juice if you have oily scalp or dandruff otherwise lemon can make your hair dry. And also, you can use a blender to mix all the ingredients.
