12 Effective Remedies For Itchy Scalp

Itchy scalp can be embarrassing, uncomfortable and frustrating because it’s not always easy to determine the cause. It can happen to all of us. Not only is itchy scalp uncomfortable, but it’s also a sign of poor hygiene and makes one’s appearance suffer. It can lead to dry, flaky skin falling off the scalp when you scratch it, something no one should be doing in public.

Many commercial products claim to be perfect for our hair needs but these chemical-filled solutions do harm our hair in long run. Instead, it is better to look for something natural.

To relieve your itchy scalp, you can either purchase an over the counter remedies, or go to the more natural remedies for itchy scalp which promotes hair growth, doesn’t harm your hair, removes dandruff, and promote healthy scalp condition.

  • When the hair (especially oily hair) is not washed frequently enough causes itching.

Ingredients

  • 5 drops of tea tree essential oil
  • 1/2 cup brewed green tea
  • 4 oz spray bottle

Mix tea tree oil with strong brewed, antioxidant-packed green tea and apply to the scalp through spraying. Keep it for overnight or rinse hair after 40 minutes. Repeat it for 2-3 times in a week.

Green tea helps exfoliate the scalp to get rid of dandruff and related itchiness of scalp. Due to the abundance of antioxidants, green tea is considered extremely beneficial for the hair. It helps in increasing the hair thickness and lowering the hair loss and also add shine to hairs.

Tea tree oil has proven good for the healthy scalp. It removes the dryness and dandruff from the scalp. You can treat dandruff, promote hair growth with essential oils also. It increases the blood flow to the hair follicles and strengthens the roots and checks hair loss.

Alternatively, mix few drops of tea tree oil to your shampoo and wash your hair after massaging 5 minutes.

Or, dilute 5-7 drops of tea tree oil with 2 tablespoons of any vegetable oil or with 1 tablespoon of water and apply to the scalp. Keep it for overnight for the fast result or rinse it after 30 minutes. Use only herbal shampoo to wash your hair.


2. Cumin seeds for itchy scalp

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoon cumin paste
  • 2 tablespoon yogurt

Soak cumin seed in 3-4 tablespoon of water for 30 minutes. The make a paste of soaked cumin seeds and the water left in the container. You can add more water to make a smooth paste. Now, mix oil and yogurt and apply to scalp. Keep it for 30 minutes and rinse it off with herbal shampoo. Repeat 2-3 times a week.

Cumin is high in vitamin C and it has anti-fungal properties. Deficiency of vitamin C can possibly cause your skin to become dry, scaly or rough. Cumin also helps in protecting your scalp from the attacks of bacteria, fungus, and other microbial infections. It also treats dandruff, lice and heals scalp boils, scalp pimples, scalp eczema, scalp psoriasis and other disorders of the skin.

Yogurt and coconut oil will moisture and sooth the dry and itchy scalp. Cumin can be one of the remedies for itchy scalp which is effective and show the fast result.

Alternatively, boil 2 tablespoons of cumin seeds in 1/2 cup of water and apply it to your scalp and hair. Rinse it after 30 minutes. Repeat it for 2-3 times a week.


3. The regular wash of Combs & Brushes

  • Maintaining good personal hygiene is very important in addition to avoiding sharing combs and brushes. Always clean your brushes & combs every day. Dirty hair utensils are bad for the scalp, as they can plug hair follicles and spread bacteria.
  • Start washing your brushes and combs regularly in plain soap and lukewarm (not hot) water. Go for natural bristles in your brushes, not plastic. Why does that matter?   • 1-2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon vitamin e oil

Apply this olive oil twice a week and leave it for 30 minutes or for overnight for fast result. Do shampoo next day.

Apple has potassium which is one of the reasons why many people suffer from dry skin is due to the deficiency of potassium. Potassium keeps the scalp moisturized and hydrated internally.
