Is your skin dry or oily or acne prone? Is your skin tired of using the chemical filled product? Face Oils can solve your all skin woes. Yes, there are some oils which are great for our skin. I was the kind of person who hated putting oils on the skin as well as on hairs (Now, I am obsessed with it).

A few months back, I was suffering from acne as my skin is oily and I wanted to get rid of it immediately. So I went to a dermatologist and he gave me some prescribed medicine, cream (Benzoyl Peroxide), face wash and an anti-dandruff shampoo because had oily dandruff too. After some days, I noticed my skin has become dry and irritated and I had to use a lot of moisturizer in a day to keep my face moisturized but it didn’t solve my problem. After searching a lot on the internet I came to know that there are some face oils which do miracles on the skin as they are natural, pure and highly effective. Then, I thought I should give a chance to it and I made my own face serum for acne as well as hair oil for dandruff and hair fall because prescribed anti-dandruff shampoo made my hair rough and dry. I am not saying that it works fast but it removes the problems from the root. I got rid of my all skin problems with my face serum, my own mint face pack, and my apple cider vinegar toner. Now, I am happy that I made a good decision to put oil on face and hair and they are giving me great results.

So, come to the topic, we should know what are face oils and why they are necessary for our healthy skin.

What are face oils?

Face oils are the plant extracted oil commonly known as essential oils and carrier oil. It is called essential oil because it contains the essence of the plant’s fragrance from which it is extracted. Essential oils are very pure and strong in nature, it can’t be used directly on the skin. It is mixed with other oils called carrier oils, or base oils or vegetable oils. It is called carrier oils because it is used to dilute essential oils and it carries essential oils deeply into the skin.

Why are face oils important?

Face oils are important because there are many commercial products which contain harsh chemicals. So, we should go all natural for our skin problems.

1) It treats the existing skin problems like acne, rash, and irritated skin, removes wrinkles, eczema etc.

2) It prevents our skin to be infected with harmful microbes causing damage to our skin because it has antibacterial, antiseptic, antifungal and many more properties which help our skin to be healthy.

3) It heals our skin and makes them hydrated. It makes a protective layer on our skin which doesn’t let dirt, sunrays, microbes to enter and also deeply exfoliates the dead skin cells.

The American Medical Association published “Three Cases of Lead Palsy from the Use of a Cosmetic Called Laird’s Bloom of Youth.’” This case study paved the way for the formation of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1906.

Three decades later, Ruth DeForest Lamb, the FDA’s chief education officer, published a book that documented the serious complications from beauty products. This prompted the passing of the Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act in 1938, putting cosmetics and medical devices under the FDA’s control. (Source)

  • Additionally, pregnant women, infants, and young children should avoid certain essential oils. so be sure to do your homework beforehand.
  • Keep the face oil bottle away from light.

Hi, I really like your website! I think it’s very helpful, though it’s hard for me to decide which oil is good for my skin. I have a dry skin (oily on the T-zone, but more to my nose), I have the little bumps on my forehead (more like all over my face) and also dark spots from the little pimples. What oil should I use?

Is it ok to mix a couple of oils together and use it in the morning then in the evening? Or is that too much? I live in Arizona and wouldn’t like the sun to affect my skin?

      Hi Elizabeth,
Its ok to use this in morning and evening as well. But make sure you use a sunscreen after applying oils before going out. Also you should not use essential oils directly on your face, always mix it with carrier oil and then apply.

Hi Nora, You can use any essential oils like lavender, tea tree oil, geranium, rose, or frankincense. But you have to choose carrier oil according to the weather. If your skin gets oily in the summer season, opt almond oil or grapeseed oil or rosehip oil or jojoba oil. These are light and non-greasy oils. In winter season you can opt argan oil or olive oil or marula oil or coconut oil.

Hi Andrea, Yes you can apply aloe vera and tea tree oil mixture to your face at night. Its very effective in unclogging blocked pores. And, aloe vera gel is itself a great moisturizer for oily skin. so, there is no need to apply another one. Also, I would suggest you apply an anti-aging serum on daily basis. Hi Geraldine, there are many essential oils for skin brightening like sandalwood, geranium, frankincense, lavender, lemon, and carrot seed essential oils. You can choose any one or the various combinations. But if you are choosing lemon essential oil, make sure you are using at night. Choose a carrier oil like almond, jojoba or grapeseed oil and mix them with essential oils. Apply daily on cleansed face.

      Hi Raji,
I think your skin type is combination(oily and dry). You can choose the base oil or carrier oil which is hydrating plus non-greasy like- rosehip, jojoba, argan, or hemp seed. These oils are good for acne prone skin and help to fade dark spots.
Also, For essential oils, you can choose lavender, tea tree oil, rose, geranium, sandalwood, cedarwood or frankincense. These essential oils are good for treating and preventing acne, also helps to fade scars and dark spots.

      Thanks
