Method – 1 (Long Process)

Ingredients

Steps

  • Fill a mason jar with your calendula flowers.
  • Pour your sunflower oil over the flowers until they’re covered in the oil. Keep pouring oil into the container until the flowers are totally covered, shaking the jar slightly to get rid of large air bubbles. It is a good idea to have at least one inch of oil above the flower petals so that it is assured that they stay covered.
  • With your spoon, finish by pushing all flowers into the oil so they are all submerged. There should not be any pieces popping out. If there are, push them down or add more oil.
  • Now, cover tightly and place on a sunny windowsill. Leave in place for fourteen to twenty days, shaking the container lightly once a day to maintain mixture.
  • After about two-three weeks, strain out the calendula flowers using a cheesecloth and store it in a glass container.

Method – 2 (Quick Process)

Ingredients

Steps

  • Create a double boiler by filling a medium sized pot 1/2 way full with water.
  • Add sunflower oil and dried calendula flower to a glass pyrex measuring cup.
  • Now, place the measuring cup in the pot and place the pot on the stove top. Turn stove top on low.
  • Heat for 1.5 hours and then remove the glass measuring the cup from the stove top. Now, strain the oil with cheesecloth and keep the infused oil in a glass container. Allow cooling the infused oil overnight.

    Hi there,

I’ve tried making the calendula face cream. This is my first attempt and I’m pretty impressed however I just have one question! Was there supposed to be a lot of distilled water remaining once the cream had come together? I had to drain quite a bit off! I look forward to your reply!

    Many thanks
    Pippa:)

      Hi Pippa,
Glad you liked the cream. You should mix the oil and water until the separation is gone. Make sure the temperature of the oil mixture and water is the same otherwise water will be separated from the whole mixture. Even though you have drained the water, the cream is still usable and is great.
Let me know if you have any other problems.
