Ingredients
Heated Oil Phase
- 6g Sea Buckthorn Oil
- 14g Mango Butter
- 5g Moringa Oil
- 5g Rosehip Oil
Cool Down Phase
- 19g Cornstarch
- 10 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
TOTAL = 50 GRAMS
Instructions
- Make a double boiler system and add heated oil phase ingredients into a heat-safe glass measuring cup. Gently melt over low heat, stirring occasionally until smooth.
- Once melted, remove from heat.
- Now, add cornstarch and stir gently until everything is well combined.
- Let the mixture cool slightly until it begins to thicken but is not solid, around room temperature or cooler. Or you can keep it in the refrigerator for about 30-40 minutes until the mixture becomes soft, thick, and opaque.
- Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to whip the mixture for 5–7 minutes until fluffy and creamy.
- Now, add cool-down phase ingredients. Whip again briefly to incorporate.
- Spoon into a clean, airtight container. Store in a cool, dry place.
- Lasts for 6 months since it’s an anhydrous (no-water) formula.
- Always use clean, dry fingers or a small spatula to avoid introducing moisture or bacteria.
- Apply whenever needed on a cleansed face.
Notes
1. Always do a patch test on a small area (like the inner arm) before using it on larger areas to check for any skin reactions.
2. Do not exceed recommended usage. Essential oils are potent and can irritate skin in high concentrations.
3. Avoid using if allergic to any ingredient (e.g., nuts in shea butter, cornstarch sensitivity, etc.).
4. Essential oils like frankincense should be used cautiously during pregnancy. Consult your doctor if unsure.
5. Avoid introducing water into the jar. Water can lead to bacterial growth, especially in preservative-free recipes.

Frequently Asked Questions
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Is this face cream suitable for mature skin? | Yes. This face cream is made with nutrient-rich oils that help nourish mature skin, improve softness, and support a smoother-looking complexion. |
| Will this face cream leave my skin feeling greasy? | No. Cornstarch helps absorb excess oil and gives the cream a soft, matte finish, making it feel lightweight and non-greasy on the skin. |
| Can this face cream help reduce fine lines and wrinkles? | It won’t remove wrinkles permanently, but regular moisturizing helps plump the skin, making fine lines and wrinkles appear less noticeable. |
| Can I use this face cream every day? | Yes. Apply a small amount once or twice daily after cleansing for best results. |
| Why is cornstarch added to this face cream? | Cornstarch helps reduce the greasy feel of the oils and butter while giving the cream a smooth, silky texture and a natural matte finish. |
| Why is my face cream too hard? | The cream may become too firm if too much mango butter is used or if it’s stored in a cool room. For a softer texture, reduce the mango butter slightly or allow the cream to sit at room temperature before use. |
| Why is my face cream too runny? | If the cream is too soft, remelt it and add 5 grams of mango butter. Stir until completely melted, allow it to cool until partially solidified, then whip again until light and fluffy. |
| Can I substitute sea buckthorn oil? | No. Sea buckthorn oil is the key ingredient in this recipe and provides its distinctive color and many of its skin-loving benefits. For the intended results, it should not be substituted. |
| Can I substitute moringa oil? | Yes. Jojoba oil, sunflower oil, or sweet almond oil are good alternatives, although the texture and absorption rate may be slightly different. |
| Can I substitute mango butter? | Yes. Shea butter or kokum butter can be used instead, but the firmness and feel of the finished cream will vary. |
| Can I omit cornstarch? | You can, but the cream will feel richer and more oily on the skin. Cornstarch is what gives this recipe its lightweight, mattifying finish. |
| How should I store this homemade face cream? | Store it in a clean, airtight container away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Since this is a water-free recipe, refrigeration is not required. |
| How long does this face cream last? | When made with fresh ingredients and stored properly, it generally lasts as long as the ingredient with the shortest shelf life. |
| Should I perform a patch test? | Yes. Always perform a patch test at least 24 hours before using any new skincare product, especially one containing essential oils. |
