Shiny, greasy-looking skin with large pores are the signs of oily skin. If you have oily skin, you may feel that moisturizer is your enemy, but this is a mistake. Moisturizing skin isn’t the same as making it oily. Our skin needs to be hydrated and moisturized no matter how oily or acne prone it might be. The best moisturizer for oily skin is gel moisturizer. And it becomes more effective when the moisturizer is made with aloe vera gel and essential oils. Both the ingredients are good for controlling face oil and preventing acne. So, let’s take a look at what are the benefits and how to make this DIY aloe vera moisturizer for oily skin.

Scared Of Putting Oils On Skin?

Many people try and combat congested or oily skin by using harsh, stripping skin care products that remove all oils from the skin. This causes the skin to over-compensate for the reduction of oils by producing even more, which in turn worsens the congestion.

In Contrary, oil breaks up the dirt and oil on your skin without stripping your skin its natural moisture barrier. Oils can be your savior when you suffer from breakouts or oily skin, many oils contain anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and soothing compounds which heal the skin and regulate sebum production.

And no, they won’t clog your pores and make you go even oilier.

Why Is Daily Moisturizer Good For Oily Skin?

  • Moisturizer increases water content in the skin and prevents further moisture loss.
  • Moisturizers also smooth skin and will actually aid with the skin cell regeneration.
  • It exfoliates the skin and controls acne.
  • It helps to prevent producing more skin oils.
  • It hydrates the dry and flaky skin caused by the drugstore acne treatment products.

Hello, how long are you supposed to mix? I mixed with a spoon for 5 minutes and did not get the same consistency or color as the picture. Thanks!

Hi Aline, the consistency of mixture depends upon the brand of aloe vera gel. I have combination skin and I am using this for about 5-6 months. This time I used a different brand and the consistency of the gel is very thick that’s why it made cloudy and creamy mixture otherwise it was almost liquidy. So, don’t worry you can use the mixture if the consistency is liquidy.

      Hi Tarannum,
Yes, you can use only aloe vera gel, but I would recommend adding essential oils to make it more effective.

Hi.. If I use the gel from the leaf itself & the mixture is still liquidy, is there something else (natural) that I can add to make it look like yours?
    Thanks..

      Hi Breanna,
Rose oil and argan oil are great for oily skin. If you have some allergies then, you can substitute them with your favorite essential and carrier oils.

Hi, thank you so much for this recipe. I was just wondering if it needed or could be refrigerated? And if so, will refrigerating it possibly help it to keep a little longer?

Yes, if the moisturizer is kept in a refrigerator, the shelf life of the product will be increased.
